Construction Sequence 4

With some of the panelling completed, such as the offside seat base, and the essential gas and electrical services connected, and curtains, I could go camping for the eclipse week in Cornwall and evaluate the conversion.

The Van at Lands End The van at Land's End

The major factor brought to light during the holiday was that I needed standing room, so a few days after I'd returned I visited leisuredrive in Manchester to have a good look at some roofs.

From top left, clockwise: Reimo 'hinten hoch'; Reimo 'vorne hoch' (both superflat); Bilbo; Auto-Sleepers.

Even though it is very expensive, I decided that the Reimo elevating roof was the one to have on my van. There are not many others around. AER Developments do a few different styles (at much less cost) but they would give the van a 'home-conversion' look which I wished to avoid. High tops are available (and cheaper) but I didn't want to lose the sleek looks of the van.
